View Full Version : LF Mouse and Keyboard, Razer Naga feedback

I'm in the market for a new keyboard and mouse. Looking for suggestions and feedback from current owners. Looking to spend ~$75 or less on either.
Current:
Logitech G15, Razer Copperhead
-G15 has a nice spot for my iphone to sit, and I like the screen for teamspeak stuff. Want to get a new one because it's been flickering occasionally for awhile now. However, I have two monitors so I don't need it really anymore. Mouse glides smooth and is very responsive, just looking to upgrade to the Naga if it's worth it.
Looking at:
[Keyboard]
Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard (http://amzn.to/vcZMm3) - quiet keys, slim profile etc. Would take some getting used to, but I saw this at a LAN after I heard about it, and it looked cool.
Thermaltake Pro Keyboard (http://amzn.to/jo1JtF) - more in line with the style I have now
I've seen the Logitech G19 and G510, but I'm not paying over $100 for a new keyboard.
[Mouse]
I've been eyeing the Razer Naga (http://bit.ly/taC2XM) for some time now. I don't game too heavily, but when I do, I don't mind buttons. The reviews for it say it's been mostly positive, but I'm curious to know more from people that I know that have them: Nitro, Inqa, Ambush, ?. Does it do everything you want? Has it broken? etc.
I just bought a new G510 for home & shifted my 1st-Gen G15 to Work since I was getting the same flickering lights. Annoying when gaming in the dark. I did get lucky to get the G510 at half off since my ancient G7 that died was out of warranty, so Logitech gave me 50% off a new mouse or keyboard. I had already picked up the Naga, so bought the G510 for $50. Maybe you could get lucky and get a 50% off like I did for being a long-time Logi customer by opening a support ticket for the G15?
I've really only used the Naga for BF3 so far, and it performs well enough. Being able to set different DPI's to my liking was pretty awesome coming from the G7, which had preset DPI, which I always felt was either too slow or too fast for me. Now I can set it exactly to my liking. I'll get a better feel for the side buttons after this weekend, since the buttons were fairly worthless for BF3. I haven't had it very long, a month at most.
Next in line for me is a better mousepad, and a new headset as far as peripherals go.

Ok~ I'll be on SWTOR this weekend, so you can tell me how you feel afterwards/during. I'm already used to custom DPI (Razer supports it) so that was never an issue. No way I'm paying over $100 for a keyboard, but ya, maybe I can get a hookup.
I recommend the G930 headset if you want surround sound headphones w/mic. Really, once I got it an had it all setup, it made me spoiled to normal stereo sound, etc. It seems higher quality than my desktop speakers even. I always heard Nitro and Naka talking about theirs... and once I got mine, it didn't disappoint.

I went with the Razer Naga becuase of the buttons, in mmo's i like to keep my left hand free for movement and not pressing a combination of movement keys and skill keys and shift+skill keys.
In the few things ive randomly played since i got the Naga i can say i wudnt play a game without my 12 buttons.
Ive never gone into the whole DPI and Acc side of a mouse, but i wud say get a Naga, my guess is every new game to come out will have their own naga settings like Star wows aion and wow did.
Addon ~ IT feels abit fat when you first get it but it only takes 2 weeks max id say to remeber the layout sub-con. Unlike my other razer mice that broke within the year this has lasted me some time. If you got beasty sweaty hands its anoying to clean becuase of the buttons but tbh i cant really say anything bad about it..Its one of those "once u go black you dont go back" type of situations (not that i know about this)
TL;dr - Buy a naga.
Was looking at the G930 and G35. I assume they're the same sound quality, just one is wireless?

As i posted on the other thread about the naga, its a great mouse defo worth it.
The only problem i had with mine is that stupid sticker on the mouse wheel it got loose and wont stick back to the wheel, I'll have to fix it one of these days when i have the time to dismantle it. Its not a major problem just a bit annoying. May add a photo of it later if you want to see what i'm talking about.
I never got naga cos I feared I'd never find the right button by feeling alone when it mattered.. I have 2 buttons on the place where the massive stack is on naga and I wouldn't go increasing that by much.. maybe max 6 buttons ;O
Still waiting on my fucking order of g930's, soon month in line..
HEHEHE.... HEADSET FOR UR BIGHEAD CUSTOM ME THINKS..:laugh:

Best Keyboard: Filco Majestouch (Brown Switch)
Best Mouse: Logitec G9X
Similar to how Best Headset is G930; pretty much all the reviews you will ever find on the net will agree with that.
The Naga has a nich market; if you are terrible (no disrespect) at hot-keying your skills in the games etc then Naga makes that easy for you. This mouse got famous because of WoW but even there no pro player in arena team uses this.
I would suggest that you get a good mouse and then train your self to be better at hot-keying or practice to be faster.

It was that swift guy that got the Naga well known by his WoW vids right?
That guy is so famous right now =/
Oh and that comment about having a naga if your crap with hotkeys;
Why use your left hand to use wasd, qe, use 1~9 then use shift+ alt+ when you could have it on your thumb that does nothing the whole time? Naga was made becuase there was an opening for it,

Looked to me like he was referring to Professional WoW PvP, you know the guys that compete for $75,000+ and play for a living?
That being said, if he is talking about professional eSports, it has NO relevance to mainstream gaming (like 99.99% of KoS members).
I don't like the look of the Naga myself, but I certainly see a solid use for it. I see how it could make things easier. Personally I wouldn't like to build dependence on a mouse like that though, would rather a skill-set that can cater for more versatile circumstances. To each their own though.
All that being said. I typically REQUIRE 2 thumb buttons for "clutch" abilities.
PS: For clarification, Professional= For money.

Because you cant strife with just mouse alone Ambush. This is pretty much the basics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1J-s_0XwkY. At one point or another you have heard, Clicker, Keyboard Turner, Back-pedal-er etc. Generally speaking those names related to a person with slow reaction time IE= bad player; well those that cant strife wont have a fast reaction either because of their mechanics.
Example (not so accurate just used to make a point): Lets say i am playing a rogue and you are playing a hunter, if you cant strife i will always be behind you and you cant do anything about it. EDITED: come to think of it, i did suggest Assassin build to you in Rift and you said i am just not that fast. (do i remember this right) well friend we might have found your problem here now. in all honestly this other way of playing is just as easy to learn. i think say 2 weeks tops and you will be really good at it.

I'm getting the Naga as we speak.
Professional = paid, not skilled. There's a paid BF3 tournament for $1,000,000 ... but it's for console players only. I remember watching a UT match where fatal1ty or w/e got stomped by a random on a televised in person match. Yes they'd stomp me at WoW if we battled today; no that wouldn't necessarily hold true if I learned to play and practiced.
You should know be well enough now that I can't respect something that changed the entire MMO genre for the worse.

If i was a hunter, i wud need to wasd, qe, then i wud need to use jump shot with skills. If i had a naga i can use wasd, qe, and when i jump shot i can use my thumb to do a number of skills. Why put so much load onto my left hand when my thumb sits idle.
Ahura
11-28-2011, 10:07 PM
Because 4 fingers are faster then 1; no matter how fast you think your thumb is.
W: move forward. hold Both mouse click to move forward.
S: You never ever want to back peddel in pvp. i key-bind to a skill.
A and D: to strife, and you are pressing one of these keys in combination with your mouse movements.
so lets say you are constantly pressing D down. with your Index Finger, this means 4 other fingers on this left hand are free to press anything else.
4xfingers on the left hand vs 1xfinger on the right hand , look at it that way and the difference is very simple then.

Fair enough, but fully blaming WoW for the state of the entire MMO genre is a little harsh. What's to say that MMOs wouldn't have turned this way anyways? What's to say that the rise of Console Gaming didn't play a huge part?
Kids have became incredibly lazy, as a culture across the board (and not just related to video games). Blizzard have been adjusting their product because whether we like it or not, they are a business whose purpose is to make money. They can't cater for the minority and expect to stay in business.
WoW used to be a grinder from what I hear, I'm sure they would have loved to have kept their game true to its roots. But lets be honest, if WoW was still a grinder, it would probably be sharing a grave with L2.

Ahura, I think you're retarded.
Ambush is saying 4 fingers on left hand PLUS an extra finger on the right hand. He didn't express it this way, but it is entirely doable.
By your logic, 5 fingers are better than 4. You really need to think about things for yourself rather than listening to what people tell you.
If i was a hunter, i wud need to wasd, qe, then i wud need to use jump shot with skills. If i had a naga i can use wasd, qe, and when i jump shot i can use my thumb to do a number of skills. Why put so much load onto my left hand when my thumb sits idle.

At some point you got back up all this pro talk with something.
I think i made my point clear. if you are going to use your left hand for key-bind then you don't need this mouse to begin with. EDITED: btw this explaining part was for ambush since he asked, i honestly don't care what you do or buy. end of the day it is your decision and it wont effect me in any ways.

Hey come on guys lets not get personal over a razer naga and keyboard...
Ahura - WoW made me understand something, why make people struggle when you can make things easy and appeal to the masses. After playing hardcore korean grinding games and playing for days on end without sleep i could never understand why WoW would ruin the die hard style of gaming...Anyways this mouse is like that, why use your left hand for everything when you can use your right thumb for the extra bits making it easy and appeal to the masses.
Im playing star wars atm and tbh i have 8 buttons on my mouse but i still use keybinds with my left...It just makes it so much easier to have extra on my right hand than 1~9 then shift+ and alt+. It doesnt mean im bad at keybinds, i played games without a naga too but i guess it makes life easier.
The naga is so easy, i can use my main lvling skills and lean back in my chair and play with my right hand, skills/quests/movement etc.
Some people might not like the style but people will continue to make things easier...Jus to get some more money.

I have to second what Ambush says about not getting all personal over a mouse (pretty sad when you think about it). There is rarely a time where getting in to personal arguments with other guild members is beneficial. (especially not old timers)
Appears the naga is a very sought after mouse, not to my preference but may indeed appeal to the original poster. I guess a lot of people want an extra hand free when gaming... for some reason :unsure:.

That's old news. That glove is clearly aimed at click2move games.... It won't really take off too small of a niche market.
I would like to see the huge developments with Kinect be able to provide interesting "alternative" control methods for mmorpgs.
Imagine clenching your fist at a Kinect camera to activate a cooldown or powerup ability in an mmorpg?

Slap ! a typical kos arguments !
any way , id say macro ur buttons on ur keyboard is way more effacement as Ahura did say , 4 fingers are more efficient than 1 finger .
i have key bindings on my mouse and its gives me an enjoyable feeling by using the mouse and my skills and having my left hand free to do casual things you know ..
" Drinking , getting high , punching my monitor or jacking off etc "
even as i have key bindings on my mouse and i got the muscle memory for it , when it comes to the real deal ill have to go back to keyboard and stop using my key bindings on my mouse and start using the keyboard for better result .
after all its a personal opinion . and my personal opinion of new games and gaming mouse is . that new games pushed there game encounter mechanics further with the ad-dons and the extra help from the 3ed person devices like mouses and pads , which makes the game more easy , tbh id rather play an old school game where u had to use ur personal experience . like multitasking and timing and coronations . not ad dons or gadgets to help u do them , dont get me wrong they help us big time . but i dont think that games should change based on how advance mouses or addons gets .
its funny how this post end up to be QQ one :P .
get a macro keyboard and mouse,,, and a lolipop.. lots lolipops

I love the G15 keyboard. The new version of the g15 is kinda better because its smaller and the screen doesnt need to be flipped up. I'm kinda looking for a new mouse too, but I do like my Logitech MX and Logitech G9x. I would say The Logitech G9x is better because it's more comforting in your hand for long hours of play. Probably gona get the Raze Naga just to test it and see if I can causal play(grinding/farming mindlessly) with it since it all my hotkey can be on the right hand.
P.S How comfortable is the Raza Naga btw to use for long hours btw?

Its much higher than most razer mice so that makes it more comfortable for me. Its also right hand only not their usual ambidex mice so it has a rest for fingers you dont use on the right side. Id love it if it was a bit bigger but its ok as it is. I can defo use it longer than any of my other razer mice ( lachesis, copperhead, salmosa( got it for work use but its crap))

It's very light and tracks smoothly. The auto profile switcher has issues goes back to "default" , but other than that not problem. Just a matter of getting used to the thumb keys.
I think what I'll probably end up doing is binding another hotbar to the side buttons instead of the main 1-0, -, = to start with and see how that goes. Muscle memory is a bitch.

I purchased a g510 yesterday for the programmable macro keys.
Playing a smuggler scoundrel it appears to me swtor requires a bit more attention to skills/multiple keypresses that my gameplay is usually used to.. or maybe just getting older hehe.
Its a really nice keyboard but a little pricey a £90.
Spent a few hours last night going through most of the smuggler skills that one would get up to lev 50.
Programming / enabling the macros was very easy to initially do, but then had some issues with it not recognising some 'g' keys.
That i believe though, wasnt inherent with the keyboard but they was i was combining the use of all 18 'g' keys. I made a new profile.. simplified it and it worked fine.
I did think about the G110 cos its a bit cheaper and there isnt a great deal of difference, but in fact the g510 doesnt have a usb port at the back of it, just headset port but that doesnt matter to me.
I'm glad i got the g510 cos it has a lot more macro keys.
In fact i think im playing around with the idea to play just using the keys rather than the keyboard itself.
I intend to play more classes this weekend.. im not sure about others experience with different classes but the smuggler has many skills/keys to press during an encounter, a lot of them based on... If you use X skill ~(short range)(which lights up the Upper Hand Proc) then for the next 10 seconds you can use a choice of ~y skill
This make it for me a little harder to keep an aye on what skills might have 'procd' during a hectic pvp encounter... its hard to keep track
For example heres a list of a few skills one could use as a lev 50 smuggler during pvp..
Bolts.. ranged attack.. no energy 'G' key 17 (#) on my keyboard.
Quickshot.. ranged............'G' 12 / D
Pistol Whip (Melee)............'G' 9 / E
~~~this skill grants 'Upper Hand' (2% additional dmg) Proc... for the following skills
~~~Pugnacity.. energy regen for 45 secs, can be trained to additional HoT
~~~Sucker Punch (Melee) 'G 5 / S
~~~Scatterblast Aoe (havent found it very effective yet) 'G2' / Alt q
~~~Wounding Shot .. dmg + adds damage to an exisitng DoT if applied.
Those 4 skills 'could' be macro'd so that every time in melee range you really want to pistol whip if possible.. With any lag.. hecticness of pvp might be tricky to see if it hit or not as it has only 4m range..
Therefore could macro it to:
pistol whip... wait 1.6 secs for gcd(and any delay) Pugnacity, Delay .2 secs Sucker Punch, Delay .2 secs Scatterblast or Wounding shot.
That cycles at every 2 seconds, the cooldown on Pistol whip is 6 seconds.
Hence 3 cycles per pistol whip cd..
I did it this way because Sucker punch can later on be skillpointed to it giving an Additional Upper Hand (if target is dotted) thus cycling though only maximum of 2 seconds to make use of the xtra upper hand to Sucker Punch quickly without having to wait the 6 seconds for the pistol whip to activate UH..
Macroing could help too if during pvp you pistol whip and the target goes out of 4m of Suckerpunch Range... instead of wasting the UH (lasts 10 secs only) it will either Scatterblast or Wounding shot without you having to press a key allowing you to concentrate on say a tendon blast to slow the target down.
Other macro's intended to save on number of keypresses :
Dirty Kick key macro'd with Headshot (only castable when target is immobilised)
Flash grenade/dodge.. depending on circumstance when using flash grenade in pvp im either trying to get away from opponents hence dodge would help.. or im about to engage 2+ players and want to immobilise 1 and fight other
I could go on and list the other numerous skills but its a bit TL/DR.
but if any smugglers want to compare key setups macros etc feel free to ask.
Sorry for going Off topic a bit but if anyone else is going to play swtor it, a new keyboard might be worth consideration purely due to the amount of skills i found in swtor, well at least for a smuggler anyways:)
Lol that thing is just awfull.
I'm also looking for a Mouse and Keyboard combo, but i'm new to all these crazy products with assignable buttons on the mouse and all that.
I need av average/big size mouse that is comfortable and a keyboard that is easy to type on and look half decent, but i'm only willing to spend around the £80-100 mark for both together.
It will mainly be for Star Wars The Old republic, but also for typing up essays for college and music production, so comfort is one of the key things and i would probably prefer them to be wired.
Any advice or guidance would be great, cheers.
I know right? Imagine how crushed people would be if we were talking face to face. It's always a funny feeling when you feel the tension building as people get uncomfortable and change the topic. Here on the forum though, it's "opt in"; people are more willing to play because they can leave any time.
Full disclosure, I'm not as direct IRL from the start, but will tell people the truth if they ask.
Someone try this setting, I think it might be better http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Headphones-Headsets-Microphones/Fix-for-Logitech-G930-Audio-Bass-Distortion/td-p/668462.
Mine has never turned off on me while I was using them.
The headphone has a 10mins auto turn off if you have no incoming sound. A lot of people love the G930 mic and rather not wear the headset all the time, so they wish Logitech would implement a update where the option of turning off auto-turnoff is allowed, so they could use the Mic and their pc speak during gaming, online phone calls?, skype and such. Another problem is that when it auto-turnoff after 10mins, it takes 3-7seconds of holding the power buttons for it to turn back on, and sometimes it turn on and off right away, so might take a few times to really turn it back on. Very annoying when you're yelling at noobs to "GET THE FUCK BACK" on HoN, the mic just turns off. And a lot of time you don't even notice it turning off, b/c you're using your pc speakers.
Some people figured a way to by pass this auto turn off. By playing Itune/music with no sound?, or they use their Gkey to push and a sound come out and the 10mins timer reset. IMO the hardware for this headphone is great, but the software not up to par.
"I bought these expensive surround sound speakers just for the mic."
Seriously?
Logitech sells mic only products. The turn off feature can be disabled by a small patch (plays a sound all the time that you can't hear) if you bother to search. I don't understand people these days.
..if you bother to search.
I did say that they have by-pass for it (you have to turn on the program everytime you turn on your pc?), but it's not from Logitech. And most desk mics r terrible or not comparable to headset mics. A lot of people like to use the headset for teamspeak and music/video for their speakers. And if noone on teamspeak speak for 10mins and decided to ask you a question, your headset would have already turned off. I don't get why software developer think it's a smart idea to not have a disable button for auto turn off even if the headset is pug in to charge for such an expensive surround sound headset. And the headset take 7-20seconds to turn back on. I don't understand people these days not wanting to enjoy the things they own to their full potential.
Meh. Mic + speakers causes echo, horrible for other people if you're gaming. Enjoy to fullest? I enjoy taking a piss, but that doesn't mean I go around pissing on other peoples faces just because I enjoy it so much.
Not sure if you're one of those annoying echoing people, but you know what I mean. :D
So I dropped my headset on the ground really bad. I think it fks it up alittle bit because it kept turning off right away after i turn it on. But now it works again, but it won't ever turn off until I press the power buttom haha. PROBLEM SOLVED!
