I got the first book, plus the second and a new steven king book for a tenner in ASDA - thats a bargain. Not read it yet as IM reading something else but its next up. (unless Oni's book is printed first)

All the main story from start to end yea, but there was alot of back/side story missed out as with all TV/Film adaptations.

Yeah they simply tried to show the different plots so it came off a bit confusing. Much better in the second book. Episode two was well done, if a little, brash in it's sexual portrayals, but then that's Martin. Story lines coming together quickly.
